Meet My (Old) Gang
Beside family gathering, silaturrahmi and other ritual tradition, Iedul Fitri always means reunion with my old school gang - teenage-to-youngadult life. We’ve been friends for about eight years, and with some were longer, almost 20 years now.
We were a buncha kids from a (now) dense (and not healthy) neighborhood in Jakarta suburban, and so proud of ourselves.
We used to have a band. We used to have common hobbies, travelling, hiking, yelling, music and such. We had our own conflict, stories and memories.
We’re not a gang anymore, we live our own life.
We had our promise and somehow we broke it.
Gather with my old friends and share our stories makes me grateful for what I am now, and encourage me to do better with my life.
One passed away. Some live happy with their family, some have to struggle for child custody. Some are wealth, some broke and most of us just have a middle wealth. Some lost their spouse, either left or passed away. Some had an affair. And some are bachelor. Some live in their own house, some with their in-laws, parents or relatives, and some have to sell their house. Some are very mature and some are never grown-up. Some have more than one jobs and some jobless. Some ill and thank God most of us are healthy.
We chat and laugh again. But something told me that we are not the same as before.
Do we really friends? What a life.
